Discovering what love is one day at a time
“Happy are those who trust in the Lord, who do not turn to idols or join those who worship false gods.”Psalm 40:4
One of the things that I love about God’s Word, is it convicts me, and gets me to think about my thinking. There is a song that we sing at church that says …”I have decided to follow Jesus (x3) No turning back, no turning back…" We have to ask ourselves…what have we decided? Have I decided to follow Jesus? Do I say that I love God? God’s Word is true, it never fails, and when I am convicted it is not God’s issue, it’s mine. So if you were to read that scripture above, and note that your day was filled with your heart and mind being in a foul mood, is it possible that you are thinking or believing our clinging to something that is stealing from you? We can listen to the words that come out of our mouths and the conversations that are swirling around in our heads, and discover what we truly are setting our hearts and minds on. Out of the abundance of the heart our mouths speak. The things that we are believing, and setting our minds on, find their way out. Does the language that you use about your situation…about you… match up to what God says? You can believe whatever you want. However, don’t you want to believe what God says instead? God is for us and not against us. He will never leave us behind, abandon us or forsake us in any way. His Word says that He has given us all things that pertain to godliness. He has given us an unimpaired condition, an inheritance that is incorruptible that was bought and paid for by His blood. Simply put integrity, because of Christ we are men and women of integrity. In order for me to truly be what Christ says of me, I must allow Him to be my source and supply for everything. My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 I cannot live my life by how I feel. For example, I may not feel like following through because I am tired or dealing with a current situation, because of past hurts…but if I quit, or hold bitterness and anger towards another…am I truly following Jesus…or am I turning back? Is my god comfort? Instead of the God who died and gave his life for me? Is it possible that I am wasting my days being dissatisfied and in complaint, because I have chosen to be in a foul mood because of my circumstance? His Word in Hebrews 13:5 encourages and directs us to be satisfied with the present. It says let your conduct (way, manner, character) be without covetousness (greedy gain, seeking to hoard, loving money) and be content (possessed with unfailing strength, be satisfied) with such things as you have. For He himself has said I will never leave you or forsake you. His grace is sufficient for us, and His power is made perfect in our weakness. This is the day the Lord has made I will rejoice and be glad in it. If I have decided to follow Jesus, then my decision is to believe God at His Word, not when it feels right, not when it works for me, not when I understand it fully. Always. I must choose to agree with God first, and the rest will follow, otherwise I am just a plain old hypocrite, unstable, double minded. And the Truth is simply this…Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord. For he will be like a shrub in the desert and shall not see good when it comes but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land that is not inhabited. Blessed is the man whose trust is in the Lord and whose hope is in the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit. Jeremiah 17:5-8 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Humility…it is a gentle word, and a simple and powerful one. It means deference or submission to another even taking the position of second…or last. One who is humble considers others needs before their own and looks for opportunity to serve and pour into others. A person who is humble is not haughty or disdainful, nor filled with any air of superiority, or any confidence in self-sufficiency. Humility is not a weak place; it is a place of enduring strength. Humility is a place of knowing, who you are, who God says you are, and trusting, obeying and resting in God in everything you do. Humility recognizes the inadequacy of the flesh, and the full and complete ability of Jesus Christ.. Humility is taking God at His Word and submitting to that in our thoughts, emotions, and actions. Humility responds in love with the right attitude, and does not have to fight or be on the defense. Humility speaks directly and truthfully and is willing to take a stand out of love for another.
Where am I in this today? “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering…” Col 3:12 KJV |
