Discovering what love is one day at a time

Last summer, I was playing cards with my neighbor at the dining room table when out of the corner of my eye I spotted a small moving object crossing my kitchen floor. The look of alarm on my face must have been enough for my neighbor, for when I returned my eyes to the table she was up on her chair in a squatting position. Her arms were tucked in tight and she quickly breathed out in a hushed whisper-yell, “WHAT IS IT?”
I have a friend who blogs on this website and her blog is called Deborah's Sacraments. I moved because she said it was easier, more user friendly, and no ads. I like that. She was right. So if you get a chance, check out her site. She is a pretty amazing lady, and one of my dearest friends.
You know… when I was growing up, we would go to church and the priest would have everyone greet one another and offer peace. I always wondered what the significance of that was. When I went to church as a child my experience was that it was the day we dressed up. That was as deep as I allowed the words spoken to go. Also, when I was younger people would hold two fingers out in the shape of a “V” and say “Peace dude,” or “peace …man”… My brain never thought more on the subject besides the fact of either we are in war or peace, in relationship to the country we live in. Never thought more about the significance…yet it is so significant. People offered peace to one another, but how many really knew what they were saying. Did they really have peace? Outside in or inside out…. Ever get up in the morning and in the dark put your shirt or sweatshirt on inside out? And not realize it until someone points it out to you that your tag is showing? My littlest one does it a lot. But the best thing is that it doesn’t bother him…not in the least. It is not even on his radar. He knows that the clothes don’t make the man…but the heart of the man makes the man… He craves backwards days at school…or the PJ days that they have. He loves any excuse to deviate from the “norm.” He wears things that are color coordinated, but do not make sense fashionably according to current trends, for example, tan and blue plaid shorts, with tan camouflage shirt. He loves it and simply, it does not matter. I love the hearts of my children. They look at things from an inside out perspective. They go to the heart of the matter most every time. |
AuthorI have been married to my wonderful husband for 29 years. We have two young men ages 25 and 20.. This blog is somewhat of a journal and attempt for me to remind myself of my purpose and invite others to join me in keeping an eternal perspective as we move through each day. Archives
