Discovering what love is one day at a time
Love is patient. It waits. It withholds judgement. It doesn’t manipulate situations to make it come into accordance with the standard. It waits, and waits and waits some more…and then some. Patience is not self-control, Behavior Management 101 or the like. Patience is not a series of bodily contortions(hissy-fits), mental or emotional strain, nor is it manipulation in any form… Patience is trusting God. Completely. Patience is fruit that expands our capacity to love and be loved. Patience allows, accepts, honors, waits. Patience is active, in that it is denial of your natural tendencies to self-protect, defend and revenge, however it is a resting in that it is not something we can really do, without the One that has perfected it.

I woke up this morning. Got out of bed, hugged my children, and drove them to school. Yes, with my PJ pants on and my chicken hair sticking out of the top of my head, but I brushed my teeth. It was a must. Upon returning, did the 15 minute supersonic put a load of laundry in, empty the dishwasher, clean up the kids mess from their breakfast …while making and the dash you do around your house before you pour a cup of coffee. There is a tendency of our flesh voice to scream out…uuugh…same ol same ol day after day…but the truth is, it isn’t the same. Today is a new day. Brand new. There has been no other day that is just like today. His mercies are new every morning. The fact that I woke up, means that I am still breathing…Miracle…I got out of bed…yep I have legs…and they work, I have ability and provision to drive my children to school. And I have children that I GET to clean up after. Yes, I said GET to. It is a privilege to serve my family. There is so much that I can have a grateful heart in response to, or so much that I can complain about, and not see the beauty of what lies in front of me, and react to it. Just because my flesh screams out doesn’t mean I have to listen to it, or agree with it. It’s the old man…he’s dead. I do not listen to ZOMBIES… Did you ever think about all of the different insurance plans there are out in the world today to protect against identity theft.
Seriously, what does that say about our world, our economy…our values…We have a system that protects us from others taking our earthly identity…our name, our finances…our credit… Certainly, it is important to have a roof over your head and a means to care for your family, I am not negating that, but just positioning that idea…next to the thought about what our true identity is…or actually who God says we are, especially if we have believed the truth of who He is. What/Who then should be our most important thing? |
AuthorI have been married to my wonderful husband for 29 years. We have two young men ages 25 and 20.. This blog is somewhat of a journal and attempt for me to remind myself of my purpose and invite others to join me in keeping an eternal perspective as we move through each day. Archives
